What are the top marketing textbooks used in MBA classes?

The 'Marketing Management' book by Kotler is one of the best books to kickstart your interest in marketing.

It is used in the 1st semester of your MBA. Since I am in my 1st year I know of that.
1.The Hard Things about Hard Things by Ben Horowitz

2. Universal Principles of Design by William Lidwell

You could also have a chat with Professor Rahul Singh who is an b-school topper and the founder of CATKing. He will guide you on the same.

In 1990, I was in Leipzig helping some former Five Year Planners get ready to teach the first capitalist marketing course they had ever imagined teaching.  One of my first questions was about textbooks and their answer was the same one you hear anywhere: Kotler.

I wish I had better news for those who would like to think of marketing as the discipline of New and Improved, but Phil Kotler is like IBM used to be: nobody ever got fired for buying it.  When an author ages, his writing partner slowly takes over the heavy lifting, but the truth is that more former marketing students recognize the name Kotler than Hemingway.

Kotler, Philip, and Kevin Keller. Marketing Management.ISBN-10: 0132102927 • ISBN-13: 9780132102926 ©2012 • Prentice Hall.

For my money, the best Kotler book is Lateral Marketing: New Techniques for Finding Breakthrough Ideas, 2003.
